Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Tourism in Egypt, reported that "a significant recovery in tourist arrivals will drive the tourism sector and contribute 15% of GDP this year.”
The number of visitors increased by about 40% year-on-year at the end of September, and if this continues, the number of tourists will exceed 10 million for the first time since 2012.
"In 2017, we reached about 7.5 million (visitors), and since the beginning of 2018, the figures are very good and there is a very sharp curve (of growth)," she told Reuters.
"Tourism in Egypt is expected to contribute more than 15 percent of GDP this year after becoming the fastest growing sector in Egypt," she said.
