Saudi Arabia's Trade Surplus Records a Quantum Leap

The total trade surplus of Saudi Arabia registered a leap in 2018, reaching 80.16% year on year, an increase of 262.473 billion riyals.

According to official data released by the General Organization for Statistics, the Kingdom achieved a balance of trade surplus of 589.908 billion riyals by the end of 2018 compared to a surplus of 327.435 billion riyals in 2017.

Saudi Arabia attained a trade surplus of 5.251 trillion riyals over the past 10 years from 2009 to the end of 2018, according to CMA data. The Kingdom also recorded an increase in the value of exports in 2018 by 32.69%, an increase of 272.019 billion riyals.

Saudi Arabia's total exports last year amounted to 1.104 trillion riyals (the highest level since 2014 and for the first time surpassing the trillion-riyal mark since this year amounting to 1.284 trillion riyals) compared to 831.881 billion riyals in 2017.
