Number of the Unemployed Increases in Morocco

The number of unemployed people in Morocco jumped, according to a report issued by the High Planning Commission to 1.29 million (Morocco's population 36.03 million) in the first quarter of this year, with that number expected to rise to record levels in the second quarter, where the most losses will be reflected Economy incurred by Coronavirus.

The number of unemployed rose from 1.08 million in March of last year to 1.29 million during the same period this year, as the total number increased by 19.1% at the national level.

The unemployment rate reached 10.5%, after it was in the range of 9.1%, and the rate in cities jumped from 13.3% to 15.1%, while in the countryside it increased from 3.1% to 3.9%.

The delegate revealed that the number of unemployed increased in the first quarter of this year by 208 thousand people, which reflects an increase of 165 thousand in cities and 43 thousand in the countryside. It also disclosed that the national economy created in the first quarter of this year 77,000 net job opportunities, after providing 80,000 job opportunities in cities and losing 3 thousand job opportunities in the countryside.
