The World Chambers Federation (WCF) of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), which represents more than 1,400 chambers from around the world, has selected the Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Chambers, Dr. Khaled Hanafi, to join its General Council for a three-year term, during the recent elections that scored high in regional and gender diversity.

In addition to 20 elected members, 15 WCF members were appointed by the WCF President, in coordination with the ICC Secretary General and the WCF Executive Committee, to ensure a balanced General Council. This ensures the diversity of members in terms of gender and geography, based on the affiliation of the appointed and elected member to the developed and developing economy, the size of the room, and the type of room.

The new Council included nine representatives from the Americas, 13 representatives from the African and Middle East region, 9 representatives from Asia and the Pacific, and 12 representatives from Europe. It also included thirteen women, making the council the most gender-diverse in WCF history.

Commenting on the selection of the new members, WCF President Nicolas Uribe said: We are proud of the level of enthusiasm and support from our members who have shown interest in serving the ICC WCF General Council, as through the new Council we have succeeded in bringing together one of the most diverse and inclusive boards in our long history. I look forward to working with all members to strengthen WCF and the wider community of chambers, in order to achieve the overarching goal of the Federation of elevating and empowering companies around the world to be leaders in addressing our most pressing issues. In this sense, as representatives of chambers of commerce around the world, we must set an example to lead an influential future for chambers everywhere.
