Morocco.. Unemployment Rises To 13.5 Percent during the Third Quarter Of 2023

The Moroccan High Commission for Planning (governmental) revealed that the unemployment rate in Morocco rose to 13.5% during the third quarter of 2023, compared to 11.4% during the same period last year.

The data showed that the number of unemployed in the local market increased by 248,000, bringing their number at the national level to one million and 625,000. The urban unemployment rate increased from 15 percent in the third quarter of 2022 to 17 percent in the third quarter of 2023. Rural unemployment rose to 7 percent, up from 5.2 percent year-on-year; youth unemployment aged 15-24 was 38.2 percent.

The Moroccan labor market lost 297,000 jobs during the third quarter of 2023, mainly due to the earthquake that hit several cities in the country last September.
