Oil Prices Fall Amid Fears of Deflation in Demand in China and the United States

Oil prices fell on Monday after rising on Friday on renewed fears of shrinking demand in the United States and China, which weighed on market sentiment.

January Brent crude futures fell 71 cents, or 0.87 percent, to $80.72 a barrel. December West Texas Intermediate crude futures fell 68 cents, or 0.88 percent, to $76.49 a barrel.

Both crude fell from the 100-day average of $86.61 a barrel for WTI and $82.31 per barrel for Brent crude.
