Egypt Approves Largest Urgent Economic Package for Social Protection

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi approved during a meeting, in consultation with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Finance Dr. Mohamed Maait, a package of measures to alleviate the economic crisis and the living burdens on citizens.

President Sisi directed the implementation of the largest urgent social package for social protection, worth 180 billion pounds, starting from the first of next month, March 2024, so that the wages of state workers and economic bodies will be increased, with a minimum ranging from 1000 to 1200 pounds, depending on the job grade (1000 pounds for grades from sixth to fourth, 1100 pounds for grades from third to first, and 1200 pounds for grades from director general to first undersecretary), through the early disbursement of the periodic allowance to those addressed by the service law. Civil with 10% of the job wage, and 15% of the basic wage for non-addressees, with a minimum of 150 pounds and a total cost of 11 billion pounds, and the disbursement of an additional incentive, starting from 500 pounds for the sixth degree, and increasing by 50 pounds for each degree, to reach 900 pounds for the excellent degree, at a cost of 37.5 billion pounds, at a total cost of about 65 billion pounds, which is reflected in raising the minimum wage by 50% to reach 6 thousand pounds.
