Arab Economic Review Issue 54

  • 1 April - 30 June 2022

Issue (54) of the Arab Economic Bulletin for the second quarter of 2022 is issued in light of significant international developments.  The war in Ukraine dealt a severe blow to global food supply chains and led to sharp rises in food prices that were already at their highest levels ever before the outbreak of the war. It also led to significant increases in fuel prices, while the world was barely out of the turmoil caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the problems that the global economy is experiencing to get out of the deep downturn caused by the pandemic, not to mention the repercussions of severe climatic changes, and high levels of uncertainty that discourage investment and dampen the trend of consumption in general.

The issue includes a distinguished set of studies and research that reflects and analyzes the impact of developments on the economic situation in the Arab world. The first study takes a "look at the latest developments in the global economic situation and the business environment" on the eve of the war in Ukraine, which requires the attention of the business community. The second study deals with the topic of "investment in an era of overcrowded crises" that intersect on top of each other between public health, the economy and the environment. The third study reviews "International and Arab trade in light of digital transformation and sustainable development needs" in light of the uneven recovery and the escalation of development, environmental and social challenges.

The fourth study examines "the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian war and the importance of Arab solidarity to confront it," and the fifth study examines "the repercussions of the war in Ukraine on Arab and global food security." The sixth study attempts to answer "How can technology help in facing the challenges of Arab food security?" The seventh study identifies the foundations to be adopted "for healthier and more sustainable Arab diets." The eighth study focuses on the “digital economy in the Arab world” and the importance of not missing the new wave of technological change. The ninth study provides a focused presentation of the "global and Arab economy with indicators and numbers". The tenth study deals with the topic of “Entrepreneurship in the Arab world.” The eleventh study also deals with the topic of social entrepreneurship as a new vision of corporate social responsibility "Social Entrepreneurship: a new vision of CSR".

We hope that this issue, its contents and the messages it concludes will receive the attention it deserves.
