The United Nations has called for investing heavily in developing economies hungry for clean energy because otherwise, there will be little hope of achieving any climate goals by 2030.

According to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), developing countries need investments in renewable energy estimated at about $1.7 trillion annually. So far, it has only attracted foreign direct investment in clean energy worth only $544 billion in 2022.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres stressed that "we cannot meet the world's energy needs and protect our planet and our future without massive private sector investments in renewables in developing countries."
