The High Commission for Planning in Morocco, revealed that the unemployment rate fell to 8.5 percent at the end of June from 9.1 percent a year earlier, boosted by job gains in urban areas that covered losses in rural areas, with cities contributing 132,000 jobs, while rural areas lost 125,000 jobs due to the decline in agricultural activity.

The Moroccan government expects a 23 percent fall in rainfall this year to cut the cereal yields by 50 percent to 5.2 million tons this year from last year. However, job losses in the agricultural sector were overshadowed by new jobs in the services and industry sectors.

The Planning Commission, an independent body from the government, expects Morocco's economic growth to slow to 2.7 percent in 2019 from 3 percent in 2018.
