Significant Growth in Tourism Revenue in Bahrain

Bahrain achieved a significant growth in tourism revenues during the first quarter of this year, after the sector incurred a tax of two years of closure restrictions due to the pandemic.

Tourism is one of the vital sectors of priority in diversifying the economy and providing job opportunities, due to its role in attracting investment. In addition to being a generator of hard currency in light of the scarcity of resources that make Manama vulnerable to credit risks.

The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority announced the performance of tourism indicators for the first quarter of 2022 compared to the first quarter of 2021. The statistics showed an increase in revenues in the period between January and March of last year by 875 percent to reach 292 million dinars (773.8 million dollars), compared to an annual rate. The data showed an increase in the number of incoming visitors by 984 percent, attracting about 1.7 million tourists to Bahrain.

The CEO of the Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, Nasser Qaidi, pointed out that "the positive results of the sector confirm Bahrain's progress in the right direction in implementing the priorities and programs of the economic recovery plan, and the success of initiatives and plans."
