Forum on Transport & Logistics in the Arab World

  • Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt

Logistics is an important pillar of the global economy touching almost all of the sectors. Governments and Major Companies have adopted viable investment projects related to logistics, turning it into a major branch in the National Economy of some countries and One of the most important sources of revenues in the Arab region, especially after the decline in world’s oil prices and acquisition of high shares of investment. Adding to this, the International Community is striving to increase its contribution to logistics in order to develop its local economy, as it carries a long-term return.
In addition to that, advanced logistics practices are one of the pillars needed to support the investment climate, particularly in developing countries, build efficient logistics systems and services, and reinforce competitiveness of the private sector, which can lead to greater investment, trade and employment opportunities.
Several Arab countries have recently witnessed significant and notable developments in their logistics industry. However, sustaining growth in the region requires sound and efficient structure and infrastructure in Logistics. Once this happens, it will be possible to seize the best opportunities and possibilities available and invest them properly to achieve prosperity for the whole Arab Region. In fact, the expected growth of the region will be achieved only if modernization of infrastructure and operating systems is met in three fields, namely, customs unification, land, and maritime transportation.
In light of the above, the Union of Arab Chambers, along with the General Federation of the Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, organized a conference in Cairo, in Egypt, entitled "The Future of the Logistics Industry in the Arab World, between Opportunities and Challenges".

The forum focused on the following topics:
- Current developments in the Logistics industry in the world and its implications on transport and Logistics in the Arab world.

- Most important development projects in the Arab world and Possible International Partnerships.
- Customs unification at the Arab World level and Mechanisms for its activation.
- Establishment of Arab Maritime blocs, opportunities and threats.
- Silk Road and development opportunities in logistics in the Arab world.
