A report issued by the Moroccan Directorate of Financial Studies and Forecasts showed that tourism revenues rose by 16 billion dirhams ($1.73 billion) in the period between June and September last year, which means an increase of 202 percent year on year. According to the directorate, these revenues remain down by 40.2 percent, compared to the same period in 2019.

Looking at these figures, we notice that the percentage of decline on an annual basis for these revenues during the first nine months of the year amounted to about 6 percent.

The directorate's official figures show a decline in tourism revenues last year by 53.8%, which represents a loss of 42.4 billion dirhams (about 4 billion dollars) on an annual basis.

Tourism Minister Nadia Alaoui pointed out that "the ministry, through the National Tourism Office, has put in place a set of measures to accelerate the pace of tourism recovery through an integrated and diversified strategy."

Morocco, whose tourism sector is still suffering from the repercussions of the pandemic with the decline in the activity of travel companies and the closure of most facilities for more than a year, is looking forward to profound change and a sustainable recovery with the launch of the Moroccan National Tourism Office (MNTO) a marketing mechanism aimed at reviving the sector.
