The Boom in Global Tourism Faces Challenges from Climate and Technology

The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) warned that the path toward greater prosperity in global tourism faces numerous obstacles, most notably climate change and the rapid technological boom.

The organization’s Secretary-General Elect for 2026–2029, Sheikha Nasser Al Nowais, affirmed that the tourism industry is currently at a pivotal stage amid unprecedented global challenges, especially climate change, accelerating technological advancement, and geopolitical transformations.

Al Nowais noted that “this reality calls for flexible leadership with a forward-looking vision, capable of devising diverse and collaborative solutions aimed at redefining the future of sustainable and responsible tourism.”
