Jordanian Finance Minister Muhammad Al-Ississ expected that the public debt will decline for the third year in a row, by about 1.5 percent in 2023, to reach 88.2 percent of GDP. He also expected that the budget deficit after grants in 2023 would reach about 1.86 billion dinars ($2.62 billion).
He explained in his budget speech before the parliament, that “the decline will continue in the subsequent years, as all indicators confirm that the country’s economy is stepping confidently on the path of gradual recovery, the national economy is expected to grow by 2.7 percent for the years 2022 and 2023, compared to 2.4 percent in 2021.”
Minister Al-Ississ pointed out that "estimates of external grants in the budget are estimated at 802 million dinars ($1.13 billion) in 2023, compared to 796 million dinars ($1.12 billion) for 2022."
Jordan announced at the end of last November the draft budget for 2023, with an expected deficit before grants of 2.6 billion dinars ($3.66 billion), compared to 1.7 billion dinars ($2.4 billion) estimated for the year 2022.
