China has announced the discovery of huge gold reserves in central Hunan province, valued at about 600 billion yuan (about $82.9 billion).

China is the world's largest gold producer, contributing about 10 percent of global production in 2023, according to data from the World Gold Council.

During the first three months of this year, China consumed 741,732 tons of gold, while its production reached 268,68 tons, forcing it to rely on imports to meet growing domestic demand.
