China's Industrial Output Grows by 5.8 Percent

China's industrial output value-added rose 5.8 percent year-on-year in May.

According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the manufacturing sector grew 6.2 percent year-on-year in the same month. The added value of equipment manufacturing and high-tech manufacturing output rose 9 percent and 8.6 percent, respectively. The data also showed that industrial output rose 6.3 percent during the first five months of the year, compared to the same period last year. Industrial output is used as an indicator to measure the activity of large industrial enterprises, which are companies with an annual main business volume of at least 20 million yuan (approximately $2.79 million).
