Larger-Than-Expected Increase in Economic Activity in Japan

Data from the Japanese Government Office showed that the main indicator of economic activity in Japan rose in December by more than initial estimates.

The index, which measures the future activity of the economy, rose to 110.2 points, compared to 108.1 points in November. The preliminary reading of the index in December was 110 points. The index reached its highest level since October 2022 when it recorded 110.6 points. For its part, "Toyota Motors" of Japan revealed that global production of cars rose by 7 percent in January, recording an increase on an annual basis for the thirteenth consecutive month, as the automaker benefited from strong demand in the United States.
