The International Air Transport Association (IATA) revealed that demand for global air freight rose by 18.4 percent year-on-year in January, driven by e-commerce.

IATA Director General Willie Walsh said: "This marks a strong start to the year.” Pointing out that "this increase in particular is due to the continued thriving e-commerce sector, supporting the demand for air freight to grow to levels exceeding those recorded in both trade and production since the last quarter of 2023." He added, "The other side of this good news is the uncertainty regarding the economic slowdown in China."
