The Spanish National Statistics Institute reported that consumer price inflation rose to its highest level in five months in July, driven by electricity and transport costs.
The Consumer Price Index recorded an annual increase of 7.2 percent after rising by 3.2 percent in June. This was the highest rate since March and matched preliminary estimates. Core inflation, which excludes unprocessed food and energy prices, rose to 3.2 percent from 2.2 percent. On a monthly basis, the CPI fell by 1.0 percent as expected, reversing a 7.0 percent increase in June.
In the European Union, the harmonized inflation rate rose to 7.2 percent from 3.2 percent a month earlier. This figure matched the estimate released on 30 July.
