Global food prices in August held near their highest levels in more than two years, as increases in meat, sugar, and vegetable oil prices offset declines in cereals and dairy products, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The FAO Food Price Index, which tracks changes in international prices of a basket of commonly traded food commodities, reached 130.1 points last month, compared with a revised 130 points in July. This was the highest level since February 2023, though still 18.8 percent below its March 2022 peak following the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war.
