Assistant Secretary-General of UAC, Shaheen, Discusses Cooperation with FAO

Shaheen Ali Shaheen, Assistant Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Chambers, met with the Assistant Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Regional Director of the MENA Region, Abdessalam Ould Ahmed, in Cairo, where they discussed the preparations for the 6th Arab Conference on Investment in Food Security "Smart agriculture is a promising option for the Arab world", to be held in UAE on 14-15 November 2018.
Mr. Shaheen highlighted the importance of the conference and investing in "Smart Agriculture" as a mean to achieve optimal utilization of agriculture, through reduced use of land and water, to obtain the best crop production. This represents a promising future for the Arab World with respect to achieving sustainable agricultural production and addressing the problems of limited resources and climate change facing the agricultural sectors in the Arab Countries.
In turn, Mr. Ould Ahmed praised the cooperation between the Union of Arab Chambers and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), pointing out "the need to enhance the cooperation between the two sides on several issues, namely, food security, climate change and R&D in agriculture."
