Chinese Premier Li Qiang confirmed that the Chinese economy will continue to grow strongly in the coming years. He expected the GDP to surpass 170 trillion yuan ($23.9 trillion) over the next five years.
He explained that China will work on expanding domestic demand and increasing internal consumption to become the main driver of growth. China will also continue opening its markets to global companies. He pointed out that achieving these goals will represent a new and significant contribution to global economic growth.
The World Bank had expected the Chinese economy to grow by 4.8 percent this year, a figure close to the official target of around 5 percent.
